How it Calculates the Results

The Body Mass Index (BMI) is calculated using the formula: BMI = weight / (height in meters)²

The body fat percentage is calculated using the U.S. Navy’s fitness formula which is typically considered quite accurate:

  • For males: BF = 495 / (1.0324 - 0.19077 * log10(waist - neck) + 0.15456 * log10(height)) - 450
  • For females: BF = 495 / (1.29579 - 0.35004 * log10(waist + hip - neck) + 0.22100 * log10(height)) - 450

Limitations

While the BMI to Body Fat calculator can provide useful estimates, it has the following limitations:

  • BMI does not distinguish between weight from muscle and weight from fat, so highly muscular individuals may get misleading results.
  • The body fat percentage is an estimate and may not be perfectly accurate for everyone.
  • It is important to use proper measurement techniques to ensure accurate inputs, particularly for neck, waist, and hip circumferences.

For more accurate results, consult with a healthcare professional or use more advanced body composition analysis methods.
