This tool converts QFE to QNH to help you understand atmospheric pressure changes with altitude.
QFE to QNH Calculator
This tool allows you to convert QFE (Pressure at Field Elevation) to QNH (Sea Level Pressure). Enter the QFE in hectopascals (hPa) and the altitude in feet, and click “Calculate” to get the QNH value.
How to Use:
- Enter the QFE (current pressure at airport elevation) in the QFE input box.
- Enter the altitude of the location in feet in the Altitude input box.
- Click on the “Calculate” button to obtain the QNH value.
- The calculated QNH will be displayed in the Result box.
How it Calculates:
The calculator uses the standard atmospheric pressure lapse rate to convert between QFE and QNH. The conversion formula is as follows:
QNH = QFE + (Altitude / 30.48)
This formula assumes a linear decrease in pressure with altitude, which is an approximation. The factor 30.48 is used to convert feet to meters and then apply a standard lapse rate of approximately 1 hPa per 30 feet.
Limitations:
This calculator assumes a standard atmosphere and does not account for local variations in pressure and temperature which can affect the accuracy of the result. The QNH provided by this tool should be used for general planning and reference only, and not for precise aviation operations.
